Cumberland 125 recently distributed funds in the amount of $10,000 to the Cumberland Public Library. This money was made possible through fundraising events that have been held since August 2007 and during the 125-year celebration in June 2009. The library’s plans are to use the money for renovations and expansion. There was also a donation of $2,000 given to the Cumberland Senior Center Sponsors for use of the Senior Haven building over the past 2½ years for meetings, Bingo, and the History Display during the celebration. Cumberland 125 is also in the process of purchasing a “Welcome” sign to be placed on the north edge of town come this spring. The reflective vinyl sign will cost $1,300 and additional supplies for framing and installation will be needed. Also this spring the time capsule will be buried in the City Park. The weather did not cooperate last fall to get the time capsule back in its spot. There are still a few items left from the celebration available (cookbooks, memory books, etc) if anyone is interested. Thank you to all involved with Cumberland 125 making it possible to give such sizable donations to our local organizations and giving back to the community of Cumberland.
