Minutes of May 09
Regular City Council Meeting
May 12, 2009
7:00 p.m.
Cumberland City Council met in regular session with Mayor Julie Edwards presiding. Mayor Edwards called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Council members present were Clarke Gerlock, David Meyer, Steve Porter, Lela Mae Lank. Absent: Michelle Lange. Also present city employees Ronald Benton and Pat Becker.
Motion by Gerlock, second by Porter to approve meeting agenda with the addition of Item G – citizen complaint forms and Item H – Use of ballfield. All ayes, motion carried. Lange absent.
Motion by Gerlock, second by Porter to approve consent agenda with April bills in the amount of $12,956.91. All ayes, motion carried. Lange absent.
Motion by Gerlock, second by Porter to set Clean-Up Day on June 6 from 6 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. with June 13 as a tentative date. Will contact 4-H Club to help. All ayes, motion carried. Lange absent.
Council felt Firemen need to be reminded of physicals or will need to set a deadline.
Motion by Gerlock, second by Porter for City to supply paint for the south shelter and restroom if 125 committee will furnish labor. All ayes, motion carried. Lange absent.
Ron reported that the Water Quality Report was completed and will not be mailed but will be available June 1 at City Hall. Notice of this was also on the back of the water bills.
Motion by Lank, second by Meyer to pursue property owner immediately about delinquent water bills. A proposal to be submitted next month on other accounts. All ayes, motion carried. Lange absent.
Council gave Senior Haven permission to plant a tree or bush in the park in memory of Zoe Johnson.
Complaint forms were submitted by concerned citizens on street safety and unsafe property. Discussion of stop sign at 3rd and Main – State did a study of this a few years ago with recommendation of no traffic control on Main St. Will do some research on property at 214 Adams St. to discuss next month. Discussion, also, of property at 201 and 202 W. 1st St. Motion by Porter, second by Meyer to follow-up on these items next month. All ayes, motion carried. Lange absent.
Council gave permission for CAM softball to use ball field but lights would not be turned on.
The following committee reports were presented:
• Clerk – clerk school, change of hours for summer
• Streets/Sidewalks – sidewalks completed, stump removed and park seeded
• City Maintenance – windows have been covered at 107 Main and 121 Adams
• P.R.I.D.E. – meeting coming up in Atlantic, housing program was extended to April, 2010
Upon motion by Porter, second by Gerlock, the city council meeting adjourned at 8:38 p.m. All ayes, motion carried. Lange absent.
